Podcast Episode

Abstract

Hossain takes part in the creation of a podcast series named “It’s Complicated”. Her episode in particular discusses the water quality of the Harlem River and its direct relationship to the neighborhood of Harlem. She argues that there’s environmental racism at play and effort has to be made to not only help with the community’s reconnection with the river and each other, but also to remember what Harlem used to be.

If I were to do it again…

If I were to do it again, I’d change the style of the podcast. Doing it presentation style while heavily relying on the script made our workload hefty, so the project took us longer than expected. We had to continuously expand on our outline for more time usage in the podcast. If we shifted to a conversation style, we would’ve fulfilled the 16-20 minutes faster. We’d have more room for improvising and enjoying our time making the podcast. Viewers would’ve enjoyed it that way too since we’d sound less audiobook-like and more like individuals. But I’m satisfied with our organization of different anecdotes, personal and impersonal, and a strong thesis that connects to the people living near the site, the political and economic factors that come into play.
